Description for the back cover:
Wherever Callie Chance went, disaster seemed to strike, from exploding faucets to broken engagements. Now she'd stumbled across a bizarre catnapping case, and found herself in the protective custody of a sexy-but-skeptical detective. Yes, Callie was positively jinxed, and no one-especially Marcus Scanlon- was going to convince her otherwise!
Marcus might not believe in curses, but he had to admit that Callie's mere presence did wreak havoc on people's lives-particularly his own. After all, he'd sworn off women, yet here e was, hopelessly charmed by th his happless witness. Could he possibly solve this case wit his heart-and his precious bachelorhood-intact?
The book is a romance centered around a catnapping. At times it was hard to read due to Callie's constant 'I am a jinx' thinking. It was nearly on every other page. There were times when I just wanted to slap the hell out of her and yell "Alright already with the damn bad luck crap!"

What The Want by Omar Tyree
rating 3 stars
Successful male model Terrance Mitchell had no plans at all to ever settle down. For what? Being single was freedom, where relationships were binding. Nor did he have any plans for a family, with snotty-nosed kids running around, cramping his style, and eating for free. To hell with all that.
Terrance loved his life as is. He was a well-traveled, good-looking male model in an industry full of insatiable and insecure beautiful women. Women who adored him and were willing to do almost anything to prove it. He liked it that way. And he had become accustomed to it.
Then it happened. One of his beautiful women fell over the cuckoo's nest and shattered his peace of mind. From then on, Terrance could never again lead the blind mice with his flute without feeling guilty about it. He realized that women had a purpose for him. That they had dreams and aspirations that included his participation. Of course, a man in his position, constantly surrounded by beautiful women, would know this already. But just because he knew what women wanted didn't mean he was capable of or willing to give it to them. Nevertheless, Terrance suddenly felt inspired to try.

Overview:Dark-skinned chocolate, sexy and smooth, Night earns his keep by pleasuring rich white women around New York City. But he's grown weary of this seedy, criminal life. If he could just get someone to sign him to a record deal, he'd willingly say good-bye forever to the emotionless sex that is slowly numbing his soul. Just when his dream of becoming an R&B vocalist is about to be realized, Beth Ann, a beautiful supermodel deep in debt to a dangerous drug ring, begs Night to help her move a large quantity of Ecstasy. He reluctantly agrees, but the good deed sinks him deeper into the nightlife he's been trying so desperately to escape. It also puts him on the radar of the NYPD, and when one of Night's clients is found murdered the cops are quick to add it all up against him. Now Night must fight the fallout of his past and try to forge a path back to his future, before it takes off without him.
reading time: 17 days
It took a while to get through this book. It did not grab me. The pace of the book was a bit slow. The main character Night annoyed me in a way that I can't be my finger on. Perhaps the book pace and lack of excitement is due to the fact that the character was missing that in his life, since he had no real passion in his day to day life. The end of the book was it's saving grace. I look up how this book was rated on other sites and I must agree the masses. I did not dislike the book but it wont go down as a favorite either. In other words, it's a very middle of the road read.
*daring quote- page 111 when describing how blessed he felt character states " I fe lt like my back was being touched by the right hand of God and His left was massaging my dick" What can I say, that is bold!
**typo alert: page 143 7th line...see it?
Spoiler!!!Night dream is to be a famous R&B singer. But until that happens, he makes his living as a is a gigolo who serves mostly rich white women. He grew up with low self-esteem mostly due to the fact that people including his father put him down for being so dark.

They story really gets good when he hooks up with DJ Power to drop his vocals on a rap track. Dj Power shows interest in wanting to sighn him. The track is quickly a hit. Comes in to the picture is Ivy Greenwich big time manager interested in Night as well. Along with Ivy is Beth Ann the Sports Illustrated model he fantasized about. She gave him the cold shoulder.
Night relucantly takes a job. He gets there to find and older white couple, the Perls, and a black female escort in a Billy Holiday mask. With the Miles Davis mask on he went to work on Mrs. Perl. After a few minutes he feels finger probing a place that's off limits for him and he flips on Mr. Perl. Night leaves the party.
At a video shoot Night spots a story about Mrs. Perl being found murder. Panick hits him knowing that could easily get caught up. After the shoot he goes to his female pimp Raffaella's apartment only to get cuffed by the detectives waiting for him to show up. He spends the night in jail but let go the next day.
All the while Night has been helping Beth Ann through one of his friends sell a large quantity of E pills. She gotten herself way over her head they are holding one of her friends until they get the money.
In the end Night finds out that the Mr. Perl he met was not the real Mr. Perl but a neighbor. The Sweetest Taboo
rating 4 stars
The sweetest taboo–if you want it, come get it. . . .Yuri and Drae are keeping secrets–each caught up in her own whirlwind of scandal and passion. They swore as children that they would never conceal anything from each other, but now, as adults, they realize that not everything is meant to be told. Yuri is married to Jeff, a man she never really loved yet settled for. During a trip to the Caribbean she begins a torrid affair with her longtime friend Britt, a rising reggae star she has always secretly desired. Drae, a high school guidance counselor, is married to Hassan, a sadistic porn king who makes her “audition” his actors and actresses while he gets off on the wild, and not always consensual, sex. As Yuri and Drae struggle to keep up their double lives, their clandestine cover-ups come to light–and the consequences are more than either of them bargained for.
Good book. It read fairly well. The story interested me and the last few chapters of the book were quite good

After partying and "grindin'" in Las Vegas and clearing more than $100,000 and a bag of stolen diamonds, twenty-two-year-old Kennedy Sanchez, a beautiful, street-smart single mom, and her cousin Nina fly back home to New York. Later that night, Kennedy gets a call that Nina is being beaten up by her boyfriend - again. Kennedy rushes over to help, but it's too late: Nina dies in Kennedy's arms after making her promise to take care of her children. Stepping up to the plate, Kennedy becomes the mother of three more kids and moves them into a Harlem brownstone. She knows she needs to refocus her life, and gets her chance when she meets Chaz, a successful hip-hop artist who sees star quality written all over her. She's offered the chance to become a rapper and leave the streets behind - or at least shift to another kind of grind. But once in the music world, Kennedy realizes that the setting may have changed, but the hustle remains the same.
It was a good quick read. A lot of baby mama drama, chicks getting jumped and cut, death, pain, and love. One of the things that distracted me, was the use of slang. It just felt like too much at times. Overall, for those fans of urban fiction, you will love it.
Hood An Urban Erotic Tale
(Paperback) by Noire
rating 5 stars
Lamont be my government, but Hood be my name. I earned my stripes chilling up in Fat Daddy's joint, a Brownsville barbershop in the belly of Brooklyn. Some called me a street savior...others said I was just another Brownsville boy gone bad. Whatever. I brung it and I took it too. But when it was all said and done, I walked away with a lesson learned in street loyalty: ain't no need in looking over your shoulder in this game. Because your real enemies ain't aiming at your back. They lunging straight for your heart. Ya dig?
Lamont "Hood" Mason is a fearless nineteen-year-old gangsta who was born and raised in the projects of Brooklyn, New York. He was an abandoned child who roamed the cold city streets and fought hard for survival. The only thing constant in his young life was the safety of a Brownsville barbershop owned by a father figure called Fat Daddy.
The barbershop is where Hood comes of age, but cutting hair isn't the only thing Fat Daddy has going on. His daughter, Egypt, is the love of Hood's young life, and the one person whose dreams of a stable future can lead him off the grimy urban corners and out of the hustling life.
But when Fat Daddy gets caught slippin and crosses paths with Xanbar, a notoriously brutal drug kingpin, his vices threaten to bring death down on the family Hood loves. In an effort to protect his own, Hood and his best friend and hustling partner, Dreko, take to the streets on a bloody mission that doesn't go exactly as planned. Hood returns to find his world turned upside down by a wave of sex, violence, and betrayal. No longer the starving kid on the street, he's now a man seeking vengeance and retribution, and he might beforced to choose between bending or breaking as he picks up the shattered pieces of his life, one by one.
This first page is written in street lingo. It would have been tiring if the whole book was written this way but it did what it was suppose to do. It make me want to keep reading.
The characters in this book tug at heart, mind and emotions. It is clear who you are to root for and who must go down. They have a depth to them that holds you in their world. What I liked best was just when you thought that you knew the characters they would do something unexpected or in Dreko (Hood's right-hand man) case in even cold-hearted than before.
This is definitely a page turner. I could not put it down. This novel is rated MA for its sex violence and brutality, sometimes all three are happening at the same. Not the the PG type readers.

Description: Lingerie, lust and hidden treasures in this dazzling piece of West Coast noir erotica. Jodie Silver has money and prestige - she's a buyer for an import and export business handling luxury goods in the heart of San Francisco. But underneath this polished exterior, Jodie has a darker, wilder side. She's an addictive thrill-seeker who gets a powerful rush from pocketing things that don't belong to her - jewellery, artefacts and works of art. It's a potent feeling, almost as gratifying as the excitement she receives from engaging in wild exhibitionist sex - but not quite. Skilled at concealing her double life, Jodie thinks she's unstoppable, but with hunky detective Nick Hudson on her tail, it's only a matter of time before the pussycat burglar meets her comeuppance.
This book lost my interest on the first page. I kept hoping with every turn of the page some would grab me and pull me into the story. Did not happen. I care about none of the characters. There weren't any depth to them. Even the sex scenes did not excite me. The ending of the book was predictable but the most satisfying part of the book.

In the end of the story the mystery is solved and as with any romance novel the couple, Jack and Karen, wind up together.
I liked this book. Just when you thought you had the story figured out there was another twist.
Would've been 4.5 but the squares replacing the "fi" and "fl" in words disrupted the flow of the story.
For some reason some words that contained "fi" and "fl" those letters were replaced with a square. Why this wasn't caught doing the editing or printing process is beyond me. The following are the pages and the lines where this happened.

WOW! I never thought I would win an award this early in my blogging experience. I'll first like to thank God. I would like to thank my Mom for always believing in me. My family and friends who are always understanding about my book addiction. I would like to thank DeSeRt RoSe for thinking of me for this award. And last but certainly not least, I would like to thank you, the readers, because without you this award would not be possible. (LOL! that's a pretty good acceptance speech)
Here is how it goes: Open the book closest to you, not your favorite or most intellectual book, but the book closest to you at the moment, to page 56. Write out the fifth sentence, as well as two to five sentences following there. The closest book to me is Love at First Sight by B.J. Daniels.
She'd showered and changed and didn't feel half-naked anymore, but she also didn't feel quite herself, either. This new braver, more impetuous Karen scared her.
That's why she wasn't sure what her reaction was going to be as she let Denny envelop her hand in his larger one and was relieved when she felt nothing. Zip. Not even a flutter. Nothing that is, other than frustration at not being able to place where she'd seen him before.
I'm new to blogspot so I don't know many here yet. I'm only able to tag two people.

If The Slipper Fits by Elizabeth Harbison
The Themed Reading Challenge is a six month challenge designed to help readers clear books from their to-be-read stacks which center around a common theme or themes.
Here are the “rules”:
Books should be chosen from the reader’s TBR pile (this may be an actual physical pile or a virtual pile).
The goal is to read 4 to 6 books linked by theme.
Overlaps with other challenges are allowed.
Readers may change their list of books at any time.
Readers may choose three different levels of participation:
Read at least 4 books with the same theme.
Read at least 5 books that share at least TWO themes.
Read at least 6 books that share MORE than two themes.
Themes can be geographic, genre, author, subject matter, or anything in between! Last year’s themes were wonderfully creative and varied and included such things as: books about books, books set in New England, books with a color in the title, books about vampires, books with the word ‘lady’ in the title, Gothic classics, fairy tales retold for adults, highschool classics, Asian culture, feathered friends, WWII, Canada, books in translation, and Beverly Cleary. There were many others I have not listed here!
Rule #1: The challenge runs from January 1 to March 31. (No cheating and starting before!)
Rule #2: You must read three books. After that, it's up to you how much you want to read.
Rule #3: The books must:
have a food name in the titleORbe about cooking/eatingORhave a place name in the titleORbe about one (or more) person's travel experienceORbe about a specific cultureORbe by an author whose ethnicity is other than your own (see, I squeezed it in!)
I'll leave it up to you to choose how the three books you read fit the criteria.
Rule #4: They must be middle-grade on up, but can be either fiction or non-fiction.
The purpose, this winter, is to take yourself someplace out of the ordinary, to go on a literary trip, whether that be challenging your expectations, discovering a new place, or enjoying the experience of reading about good food, places, and people
This is a great way to combine 1st in a Series with this one. The only thing with 2nds is doesn't have to be a series book. It can be a book from an author you've just read one book from before.
Here are the guidelines:

3. You can join anytime between now and December 31, 2009. Don't start reading until January. 4. You may list your chosen books any time during the year. Change the list if needed
