Where Life Takes You by Claudia Y. Burgoa
Publication date: July 31st 2013
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult
Rating 4stars

Synopsis:
Becca Trent lived her childhood next to a cruel woman—her mom—who lived to torment and neglect her. During her high school years, her mother married; bringing home not only a new husband, but a step sister her same age. The latter took over her Mom’s role—making Becca’s life miserable. Including stealing Ian—Becca’s best friend and boyfriend—Lisa treated her worse than her mother had for the previous fifteen years. A couple of years later, things ended up in tragedy.

Becca buried that part of her life in the deep corners of her psyche, but that only work during the days when the nightmares didn’t come back to haunt her. Her best friend, Dan gives her that family love she always lacked. Everything was close to perfect, until everything and everyone from her past came back. Now, she’s trying to figure out how to survive and keep that bond which seems now to be held together by a thread.

Note: This is the first part of a two book novel.
My Review:
This was good. Becca mother has always treated her like she was the worst mistake in her mother life. Even from birth. As a small child she had her grandmother until she died. Then her mother met Greg. Greg came along with a son Ty and daughter Lisa. Ty was older so he didn't live with them but Lisa did. Lisa was worst than her mother. At every turn the two of the made Becca's life hell. Two events shatter Becca, who was already fragile, into little pieces.

Becca is likable enough. I say enough because there are times when I just want to smack her and shout "listen to what people are saying to you". However, Becca has been verbally and mentally abused since birth so she always have had a little voice in her head feeding her negative thoughts. Through out the book there are hints building up to this big secret.

Dan is a friend of Ty (Becca's stepbrother) from the beginning he and Becca connected. They became best friends. Dan eventually falls in love with Becca. This is not a spoiler because it is obviously from the beginning of the story. Dan is the one person (since her grandmother) who she comfortable with. As with all things their relationship begins to change as well. In the end, Becca is forced to deal with the events that lead to her big secret and learn that it is now time to find herself.

Should you read it? Yes. Who should read it? Those looking for a book with a deeper issue other than puppy love. Who shouldn't read it? Those who read only clean books. There is a very explicit scene.
