Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Reading Challenge 2016

#FantasticBeastsRC

If you took part in my Hogwarts Reading Challenge this one will feel so what familiar.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them Reading Challenge 2016
January 1, 2016 to November 14, 2016

I am so happy that a new HP movie is coming out. Aren't you excited?! I decided to celebrate with a reading challenge. The Hogwarts challenge from a few years back gave me the idea of this one. You are still a student of Hogwarts. Being smart bookish, you find out that there are hidden classes students can take (that Hogwarts is always full of surprises) an AP Newt Scamander class taught by Professor Neville Longbottom.

Class description:
A magizoologist is in constant contact with creatures, beasts, plants, and hybrids. This class is your step into the intense profession of Magizoology.

Prerequisite: Care of Magical Creatures (Herbology is not required but suggested)

Required book: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander

Keep a look out for your O.W.L.s in May and N.E.W.T.s in November. Special assignments may pop up periodically. Remember you are still a student of Hogwarts so each beast (book you read) you find will count towards your house points.
                                                                                            -Professor Neville Longbottom

So there you have it. The Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them Reading Challenge 2016. Basically in order to complete the magizoology part of the challenge you need to read at least one book that fits the description of a fantastic beast or can fit Care of Magical Creatures.

House Points are awarded as such:

Read a book that is about, has on it's cover, in the title an animal that fits part of the description of a fantastic beast. 15 points each - beasts can be found here and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them by Newt Scamander

Read a book that you can list under Care of Magical Creatures. 10 points each

Reading books that you can list under the following for 5 points each
--These classes are Transfiguration, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Potions, Astronomy, Herbology, Arithmancy, and Ancient Runes

Reading books that you can list under these three 1 point each
--These classes are History of Magic, Divination, and Muggle Studies

I'm going to have fun with this so those you follow me on Twitter will seem me tweeting my adventures of tracking beasts for this class. Join me by using hashtag #FantasticBeastsRC

Synopsis

** This book contains strong sexual content and is intended for mature audiences only**

It just so happens that someone else is wishing for the same thing. There’s a blizzard outside but inside Quinn McGrath’s Irish Manor, the fire is roaring. Together, their wish has been heard.

What happens next is nothing short of naughty magic with all the trimmings of a warm and fuzzy romance. It’s not every year that Christmas magic lands Livy in the bed of a hot Celt who wants nothing more than to dominate her into sexual bliss.

This book contains graphic sexual scenes and is intended for adult audiences only

My Review
I didn't care to much for this one. Talk about insta-love. The plot was just to implausible for me. I mean really, you prayed for the love of your life and just like that pouf in your bed. Nah. I'm not saying prayer doesn't work but since when after Jesus left the cross has it worked like that? Both characters had unrealistic reactions to this divine miracle. Who wouldn't be happy for a miracle but who wouldn't also be shocked that the miracle happened? The sex scene was steamy so it had that going for it. I also didn't care for Quinn's personality. This just wasn't the read for me. If you are into alpha males and a pining woman then give this a shot otherwise you've been warned.

About the Author
In 2007, I wrote my first story on a fan fiction website and have been hooked ever since.

I love all things vampire, werewolf, wizard and warlock.

As a Chicago native, I have had the opportunity to meet people who thought that they were one or all of these things.

I knew writing was for me when I was taking a floral design class on Michigan Avenue and was chased by a sweaty, rock-slinging crack head who was wearing a fur coat and Elmer Fudd hat in July. I saw this as a sign and decided to go back home and hide behind the sanctuary of my computer.

Please... have fun reading my stories. They're not to be taken too seriously. I just like to write and tell stories. I hope that you enjoy them.

Book Review: A Christmas Story by Stella Wilkinson

#giveaway #blogtour

A Christmas Story by Stella Wilkinson
Pages: 28pgs
Publisher: Author Self Published
Source: Amazon
Format: mobi
Rating: ☆ ☆

Synopsis:
Holly and Caleb had been best friends as children, growing up on the same street, but as teenagers they couldn't be further apart. When Caleb unexpectedly asked Holly to help him pick out a Christmas gift for his girlfriend, neither of them anticipated where it would lead

Purchase
Amazon  -  Barnes and Noble  -  Kobo  -  iBooks

My Review
Short story teen holiday romance. Holly is the girl next door. Caleb is good boy turned edgy popular kid leaving Holly a distant memory or so she thinks. While helping Caleb pick out a gift for his girlfriend maybe they can at least become the friends they used to be.

The characters are okay. It is only 28 pages so there isn't much time for character development. Caleb's speech at the end bothered me. It just didn't feel like something a teenage boy would say. It was very romance novely... :P I know that's not a word but you know what I mean.

Quick one sitting read. Besides the title and the present used as a plot device it not much of a Christmas story. Read if you are looking for something to get out a funk.

About the Author
Stella Wilkinson is a full time author with fourteen books currently available, plus inclusion in four anthologies, three multi-author sets and even a cook book!

Stella is from the South West of England, UK, where she lives in a world populated mainly by her characters, and where romance and the occasional paranormal creature are what she thinks and writes about. Although she is best known for her hugely successful Flirting Games Series, she also has two stand alone novels and two other series titled Lessons in Love and Magic & Mayhem, which are young adult romantic comedies. Stella is an enthusiastic (if dreadful) cook, and loves to bake chocolate brownies by the dozen. She also collects antique books and first editions of any genre at all, so her walls are filled with dusty smelly old books on various boring subjects that she treasures and her family hates

WRI Presents an Afternoon Delight Review: Big Girls Do It On Christmas by Jasinda Wilde

@jasindawilder #afternoondelight #bookreview

Big Girls Do It On Christmas by Jasinda Wilde
Pages: 14 pages
Publisher: Author Self Published
Source: Kobo
Format: ePub
Rating:★★

Synopsis

A very special Big Girls Christmas short story to be read after Big Girls Do It Married.

This is a short story of 4,000 words.

Purchase

My Review
Meh. This was really short. So short that I can't tell you anything about it without giving anything away. All I can hint at is that its a life changing thing.

What I can tell you is that no real action happened. There isn't any conflict. Also this is a little side note story for those reading the series. I think that if you follow the series then maybe this story would be more satisfying.

Also this is a what romance novels have a reputation for. Her description of her overwhelming love for him is over the top. The cliché romance novel words are in full affect like hard steel, hot silk, and feminine folds.

I couldn't get into this. I haven't read the series so I don't know these characters. I'm not invested in their story. This story was written to tie fans over between books. I didn't hate it but it didn't make me want to dive into this series either. Not that I wouldn't give it another shot, it just not top on my list.

2015 Discussion Challenge - Fah who for-aze! Dah who dor-aze!

@NicoleMHewitt @ShannonMiz #LetsDiscuss2015

I think y'all can tell from my previous posts that Christmas is my favorite holiday. Religious aspect aside (not opening can), it is the most cheery. The lights are blinking and bright. Evergreen trees a decorated. Baked goods fill the air. Kids are laughing. Adults are smiling. Kisses are abundant thanks to mistletoe. Music is festive. Churches are packed like nightclubs.

Families are gathered around the table. Santa is spotted everywhere from Walmart to Saks Fifth. Kids are camped out on the couch trying to catch Santa in the act. Stocking and wreaths are hung on mantels and front doors. It just a wonderful time. I love it! My heart grows 2 sizes on Christmas.:D

WRI Presents an Afternoon Delight Review: Her Christmas Bonus by Rain Danvers

#bookreview #afternoondelight

Her Christmas Bonus by Rain Danvers
Pages: 29 pgs
Publisher: GRM Digital Publishing
Source: Kobo
Format: ePub
Rating: ☆ ☆

Synopsis

Sage has been working at a high-tech firm in Newport Beach, CA for over two years as the only female director among three men. She is highly valued by her boss and she loves her job, but there's a problem - she's totally attracted to him and the stress is killing her. She's taking three days off for the Christmas holiday and has posted her availability online, hoping to find a job when she returns. Before she can leave, she has to find her cell phone and she doesn't know where she left it.

Terrance is the founder and owner of Templeton Designs and considers Sage so valuable to the company, he can't afford to acknowledge the feelings he has for her. He's stuck at the company this year when normally he would be enjoying the holiday in a warm, tropical location. It may be the year he finds a way to acknowledge the woman who holds his heart captive.

Purchase
Amazon  -  Barnes and Noble  -  Kobo  -  iBooks

My Review
Meh. Two people. One is the boss and one the employee. Both are not that fond of Christmas for their own reasons. I didn't like either character so I really didn't care what happened in their relationship. Which ended up being a good thing because the ending ended up being too rushed and too forced to be satisfying.

About the Author
Rain Danvers didn’t start out as a writer; in fact there wasn’t a time in her life when she had a story in her head begging to be put to paper.  Instead, she was busy writing technical manuals – lots of tech manuals. She proclaims herself to be an information junkie, reading everything she can to improve her life. An avid reader since grade school, she has been reading romance since her teens.

After a life-altering event, characters started to emerge, anxious for their stories to be revealed. Slightly obsessed with men and romance, Rain is inspired as much by a phrase as a good photo. These often lead to daydreams which then turn into an idea for a story when waking up in the morning after sleeping on the idea.
