2015 Discussion Challenge - My One Interaction With Scientology

@NicoleMHewitt @ShannonMiz #LetsDiscuss2015

I figured I would start of the month on a religious note. This is not a bashing of Scientology. I don't know much about it to bash it. And I don't bash people religious beliefs whatever they may be. That's not how I roll.

I used to live in the Boston, MA area. One day I was walking from downtown. On my way to Kenmore Square I saw a sign for free personality test. It one of those flip open signs like those restaurants use to list the day specials or something like that. At the time I was very much into personality and IQ tests. So I walked around back and inside a door. Side note, I grew up in a pretty urban area so this was so naive to just walk into a place by myself without knowing what it was. Once inside a guy sat down with me and asked me questions from this personality test. The results said that I was depressed and angry. LOL. Funny thing is, the results were right. I have gone through some things in my childhood and was going through some things at that time.

Here's where they lost me. He said we can help you with that. I say okay. We got up and walked over to a table that had some books on it. He said that I need to read 3 books. I'm still nodding. Reading 3 books is not so bad. Then he said I had to pay for the books. Chile bye. I said I didn't have any money on me and left. The truth was I didn't have any money on me but even if I did I wasn't going to give to him. I'm cheap as f*@k.

 At the time, I didn't even know what Scientology was. I had never even heard of it. I didn't even know it was a religion. Like I said above, I wasn't paying attention so I  the Church of Scientology sign. Which by the way wasn't that big otherwise I would have seen it. The place I went to is on a street that has mostly residential brownstones. So it doesn't actually stand out. At any rate, I had tunnel vision and only saw personality test.

From the little I have heard about it since, you have to pay to be in the religion so they never had a chance with me anyway. I don't, won't, and wouldn't pay to attend service for any religion. For those of you who say the offering plate is like paying for services. One, I don't go to church often. Two, when I do go, I don't always put money in offering basket. :-O Scandalous! Hey it is what it is.

Anyway, that it. My one brief interaction with Scientology. If you are wondering what my religion is, I am a cultural Catholic. That's a topic for another post. Later y'all!

  2. Hmmm ... very interesting. When I was in high school, I had a good friend who was a Scientologist, but I didn't actually know much about it except that she couldn't date until she was sixteen and she had to someday marry a Scientologist. It wasn't until years later that I learned more about it and realized that there was a lot more to it!

  3. I didn't know about the marriage thing but it make sense especially now that more people who have left Scientology talk about it.
