Summary from Goodreads:

Freedom comes at a cost...Ella was genetically engineered to be the perfect pet—graceful, demure...and kept. In a daring move, she escaped her captivity and took refuge in Canada. But while she can think and act as she pleases, the life of a liberated pet is just as confining as the Congressman’s gilded cage. Her escape started a revolution, but she’s trapped, unable to get back to Penn—the boy she loves—or help the girls who need her.Back in the United States, pets are turning up dead. With help from a very unexpected source, Ella slips deep into the dangerous black market, posing as a tarnished pet available to buy or sell. If she's lucky, she'll be able to rescue Penn and expose the truth about the breeding program. If she fails, Ella will pay not only with her life, but the lives of everyone she's tried to save..

My Review

This reminds me of Twilight and that is not a good thing. Sorry (well not really) to you Twilight fans but that was a DNF. Never got passed the first few chapters of the first book. Ella & Bella doesn't just rhyme they both are obvious of some boy. Every thought is consumed with thought of their dream guy.

Okay. So this turn out to be pretty good. Thank goodness. Ella became less annoying once she got back with her darling Penn. What bothered me about her and characters like her is that they get mad when people treat them like the naive and often irresponsible girls they are. Some things could have been avoided had she would have just listened to instructions.

Missy was my favorite. I liked her attitude even if it was just a facade. She was willing to do whatever she had to do for a girl who really all that deserving of the help in the beginning. I am so team Missy.

Just like the first book. The plight of pets are are like some of those on slavery. You can make direct parallels between what is said in the novel with what people have said about slaves. Right down to the agrument (if you can call a lie an agrument) that because they look human does not make them human.

So don't be surprised if you get bred in the beginning. Try to make it to about chapter 11 before you start thinkijng about whether or not to finish. This is not a standalone. You can read it out of irder but will definitly feel like you missed somethng in the beginning. Also this ends in a cliffhanger but no love triangle so that's a bonus.

a couple of my thoughts while reading:

Sweet sugar on shit! I know she's calling someone selfish after hearikng about people possibly dying because of her action.

Ugh. Ella getting on my nerves. She runs away but not only does not have any street smarts, she's physicslly weak. And she complains why too much.

I'm ten chapters in and I still can't stand this Ella chick. Quick to judge Missy when she is the one who causung all the damn problems.
