Summary from Goodreads:
Popularity isn't everything it's cracked up to be. Justin Marshall knows this better than most. For the captain of the basketball team, small business owner, and son of Minnesota's next governor, life can get pretty overwhelming. But Justin can handle anything as long as he has Lucy, the girl who fell for the man he’s trying to be. But for Justin and Lucy, finding time together proves challenging. Stolen kisses and whispered promises just aren't enough. That is, until scandalous photos of the couple are leaked to a press intent on creating a juicy scandal during Justin's dad's gubernatorial campaign. And when Lucy becomes fair play for the tabloids and gossip pages, Justin does the only thing he can to protect her: he breaks her heart. For Lucy, junior year is everything she hoped it would be: new friends, second chances, and a boyfriend she can’t stop kissing. That is, until the boy she’s pretty sure she loves chooses the life his family wants for him, over her. Now it’s up to Lucy to teach him what it really means to have everything. Because for Justin, being who everyone needs him to be just might cost him the one person he can’t live without.

My Review:
This is a complicated relationship between two high school teenagers. Lucy has been through terrible bullying her freshman year. Justin has lost a brother and as a result has tried to be perfect for everyone. Together they learn what is really means to be in love. Separately, they need to learn who they really are and what they are capable of.

The characters are relate-able. Perhaps you weren't one of the characters in high school but perhaps you knew someone like them (including secondary characters). Who hasn't had to overcome obstacles or your own nagging self doubts? Or maybe you felt the need to be a certain way because of the people around you. I will admit that this was a slow read for me in the beginning. Justin was just too damn perfect. As the story unfolded the pace picked up.

Should you reading it? Yes. Who should read it? Y.A. romance lovers. Those who love a happy ending. Happy Reading

About the Author
When Lizzy Charles isn’t scrambling to raise her two spunky toddlers or caring for premature and sick babies as a neonatal intensive care nurse, she’s in a quiet corner writing or snuggled up with a novel and a few squares of dark chocolate. Black tea keeps her constant and she loves guacamole. She married her high school sweet heart, a heart-melting musician, so it’s no surprise she’s fallen in love with writing contemporary YA romance novels.

Bonus! An Interview

Me: Hi Lizzy. Let's jump shall we? *smiles*

Me: Lucy and Justin seem very mature especially Justin. What was your inspiration for his character?

Lizzy: I designed Justin’s character to be a modern, teen version of Mr. Darcy in the first novel, Effortless With You. Also, Justin’s more mature because his brother’s death has given him a unique perspective in life that many teens don’t yet have. He values it.

Me: On the reality show "Southern Charm" there is a person who wants to run for a political office. Do you think that a candidate or his/her relative would really expose themselves to reality show scrutiny?

Lizzy: I think some politicians will do whatever it takes to gain exposure to the public eye.

Me: Do you think that Just dad asked Justin to do the show because he never really took their relationship serious?

Lizzy: No. Mr. Marshall loves Justin. His priorities got a little off in his desperation to become Governor.

Me: Do you have a favorite reality show? If so, what show? Who is your favorite, least favorite, or both on it?

Lizzy: I actually haven’t watched a reality show for years! We don’t have any programming in our house except for Netflix and Hulu. Even then, I don’t chose to watch reality shows. My life is drama enough. ;-)
In college I watched the first few seasons of the Bachelor. But after those men kept choosing the wrong girl, I got too frustrated and quit.

Me: I don't watch that much reality tv either. LOL, I never watched the Bachelor but I'm the same way with award shows.

Me: Did you draw from your own high school experience when writing about Lucy and Justin?

Lizzy: Lucy has a lot of me in her, I can’t deny that. Justin is the exact opposite of the guy I dated in high school. This isn’t because my relationship didn’t go well with my high school boyfriend. I made him opposite so I wouldn’t be tempted to write my exact relationship experience.

Me: If made into a movie, who would you want to play Lucy, Justin, Jeff? You can choose anyone not just actors.

Lizzy: Jennifer Lawrence for Lucy. Justin? Hmm… Zac Efron. For Justin’s father, I’d choose Robert Downing Jr.

Me: Do you have any writing rituals?

Lizzy: I don’t have a lot of free time to write because I have three children under three years of age and I also am a neonatal intensive care nurse. As a result, my only ritual is to sit down, zone out, and write like someone is chasing me with fire.

Me: *Looks towards audience* Really makes you want to re-think saying I don't have the time to write doesn't it.

Me: What advise would you give to aspiring writers?

Lizzy: Get the words out and down. Focus your energy on editing. Over, and over again. I’m about to rewrite an entire novel, one that I’ve already rewritten ten times. No lie.

Me: Are you working on anything new?

Lizzy: Yes! I’m having a blast writing about a guy in Maine. It’s a baby work in progress, so cute at only 2,800 words. I can’t wait to dive back in to write more, but the rewrite I mentioned in your previous now takes priority.

Me: Anything thing you would like to leave our readers with?

Lizzy: Look at who you were in first grade. What did you love to do? Do it now and find joy. J <3 p="">
