My Review
Y'all ever watch those movies on Lifetime where the person wishes for a different life, wakes up the next morning living the life the wished for only to realize the grass is not greener? The chick from Baywatch starred in one and the lady that played Jo in The Facts of Life was in another. This book is kinda like those movies though this is a Cinderella retelling. When I think of Cinderella I think of the Disney version so she is suppose to live happily ever after in her new life soooo...yeah not so much since her whole family dynamic changed and not for the better.
Mackenzie is a great kid. She has a great family with an awesome best friend. They have their issues though mainly her brother's asthma. She wishes for the type of easy going life she think rich people have only when her fairy godmother grants the wish, that rich life isn't all she thought it was.
I adored this story. I just live the way the characters speak. It's so believable. She also has fun metaphors. This is a must read for y.a. readers. Even if you not normally into retellings you should give this a chance as the retelling is not that noticeable.

About the Author
Courtney King Walker grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area building rocket ships and rafts out of cardboard, hoping to make it the moon or at least Niagara Falls. But a trip across the border to Tijuana was as exciting as it ever got, so she decided writing about adventure was the next best thing. She now lives in the Rocky Mountains with her husband and four children, and still dreams of flying to the moon. She is the author of the young adult novel, ON THE FRINGE, and middle grade novel MOLLY PEPPER AND THE NIGHT TRAIN. Her next YA novel, CHASING MIDNIGHT, will be published January 12, 2016 by Cedar Fort Publishing & Media.

Awesome review, Bunnita! I'm not sure if this retelling would really be my bag, as there isn't much of the original fairy tale in it. But it still sounds like a cute story!
ReplyDeleteThanks. Yeah it not a very noticeable thing but sometimes that can be a good thing. Some times you can have that discovery moment when the pieces fit together and you are like 'oh this is Cinderella'.
