The Urban Boys: Discovery of the Five Senses is an action-adventure story about five teen boys who are mysteriously exposed to a foreign energy source that gives them extremely heightened senses. Sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell become hypersensitive gifts that forever change the world. The story offers young and mature readers central themes of loyalty, responsibility, honesty, fear, and triumph, which become artfully integrated with cinematic-level action and high drama. The story twists, turns, and grinds through elements of paranormal and action-adventure in a diverse, exciting, edge-of-your-seat narrative.

My Review
I went into this not knowing what to expect. Overall, it is an okay story. Nothing really stood out about it for me. I thought that the senses would be overtly mentioned throughout the book. I thought it would be like super duper senses. Though the boys senses were heighten, I felt like it wasn't written in a way that made them a really big deal.
I found that it was overly descriptive about everything. It is a book that you can tell that the author focus on trying to make it a literary lyrical novel. Not something I typical look for when reading ya books. In fact, I try to stay away from books like that. They make me feel like I'm back in school reading something for English class.
Anyway, the beginning does start off with action. And there is action throughout the book. I did feel some of the reactions of the characters suspect. I mean your kid could be Superman, you are still not going to want him going out there fighting crime. It wasn't a page turner for me but I think that it has more to do with the style of writing and not the story itself. With that said, it is an okay read. I think if you are a fan of paranormal books then this read is for you. Also it is nice that the main characters in the book are male. You don't find too many of those.
