My To Be Read List - Book Review: Mindspeak by Heather Sunseri

@Limabean74 #mytbrlist

Summary:
She was created for a purpose so revolutionary, someone was willing to kill for it.

Seventeen-year-old Lexi Matthews keeps two secrets from her elite boarding school classmates—she’s the daughter of a famous and controversial geneticist, and she can influence people’s thoughts.

But after new student Jack DeWeese heals her broken arm with an anything-but-simple touch, he forces Lexi to face a new reality—her abilities reach much further than speaking to the minds of others.

After Lexi’s father goes missing and she receives threatening emails, she can’t decide whether to fall into Jack’s arms or run and hide.

As Lexi seeks answers to what she and Jack are, she discovers a truth more unsettling than anything her science books can teach. And letting Jack into her life of secrets is not only a threat to her very existence, but it just might break her heart wide open.

My Review:
Interesting book. Lexi has been able to influence people with her mind. She is in boarding school with other kids of parents are in a high security position. She meets Jack and suddenly she learns the distrubing truth. She is not the only one with this type of special ability but the reason why she has her ability. Unfortunately, now she and those like her are in danger. She has to find out who she can trust while she looks or answers about how she came to be.

This is a fast paced book. The concept is good. The story is interesting. We learn how she got her abilities but we are left with more questions. Who is out to kill her? Why was her dad killed? There are so many other questions that hopefully will be answered in book 2. I know I'm interested in finding out what's going to happen now that she is on the run.

How this will works

Each month you will post with three books from your TBR List and add your link on a linky (that will be provided on Because Reading post). Your followers and the people on the linky will help you choose which book you will read next. The following Saturday you will announce the book that won. Then read the book and on the last Saturday of the month post a review (with an optional giveaway).
A few more details (step by step) :)

The Rules

Ex. Lets say its September…
The first Saturday is the 6th – your post will go up with the 3 books you choose and then link it to the linky on Because Reading blog. Her post will go up at 5am est. Make sure you link back to her on your post to have your followers visit other people’s blogs to help vote if they want. You can do the Polling however you would like, She recommend Survey Monkey, it has a good one and it’s free (here is an EXAMPLE). You can set it up and say whatever you would like – it’s totally up to you. All she ask is to please link it back to her.
The second Saturday is the 13th – this is the day you announce which book won and whatever else you would like. (here is an EXAMPLE of her post) Her post will have a linky, so we can all easily see what everyone will be reading.
The third Saturday is the 20th– you don’t have to post anything (some months will only have 3 weeks so this week would have been your review post)
The fourth (and last) Saturday is the 27th– this is when your review will go up regardless of how you liked the book. Please note even if you didn’t finished it just write a small post about how you felt about the book. She don’t write DNF reviews, but she does for this feature so her followers can see what she thought about the book they picked for her.
She also does a giveaway for $5 Gift Cert (or you can do one with the 3 books you picked). You don’t have to do this. It’s totally up to you. So please feel free to enter the giveaway at the end of the month – the giveaway is open to everyone.
This final review post will also have a linky on it so you can link up your review and we can see what you thought of the book that was picked. This will draw some views to your blog and maybe find some new friends along the way. :)

Book Review: He Who Finds A Wife by Stephan Labossiere‏

@stephanspeaks @lieppromotions #bookrevew #bookblogger

Summary:
Men want love too! From the author of the bestselling book "God Where Is My Boaz" comes a book that will help men who truly desire love and a woman they can spend their life with. "He Who Finds A Wife" takes a practical and spiritual approach to guiding men on the path that will lead to their self growth, and a amazing relationship.

Purchase

My Review:
This is a self-help book for men. With that said, it isn't really for me to understand to the fullest. I found that it did a decent job speaking to men. The main theme of the book is work on yourself. Stop blaming the "crazy women" or "no good women" and reflect on yourself so that you can change the type of women you are attracting. It also mentions that having filler relationship is just going to hurt the search for a wife. It isn't that much different than a book written for women. I guess what both men and women need to realize is that what we are is what we attract.

I really want to go off on a tangent about how men don't take responsibility for the chaos they create in women lives then when they are ready to settle down they disregard the bitterness they've created in the "no good woman" situation. However, that would be pages and at the end of the message is the same. Treat people how you want to be treated.

Overall, I like the messages pointed out in the book. There is one that I have an issue with. And it is the one that Labossiere knew I would have an issue with. That issue is submission. Why do men keep trying to get women to submit. Let's look at the meaning of submission. It is the action or fact of accepting or yielding to a superior force or to the will or authority of another person. Men should realize that word is a slap in the face to many women.

A better word is support. I am willing to support my man. I am willing to blend into the background in situations where he is better suited to be in the foreground. I expect the same from him. We support the strengths of the other. I shouldn't have to blow my light out (submit) in order for his light to shine (to have authority). Instead if my light and his light shine side by side (in partnership) the two lights will actually shine brighter together than they could've ever done on their own. And that's my two cents.

Book Blogger Hop 6

@coffeeramblings #bookbloggerhop #followfriday #ff

The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer from Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended December 31, 2012. Relaunch by Ramblings of a Coffee Addict on Friday, February 15th, 2013.

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end on Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt just like before. The hop's purpose will remain the same as it will give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.

This week's question
Do others come to you for book recommendations? (submitted by Elizabeth)

Not anymore as I have moved once again. But at my old place they would just choose something of one my shelves (nicknamed the library). Sadly because of the move the library of over 700 has dropped to maybe 50. Needless to say, the real library I donated my books to (when I moved I only took what could fit in my car) was shocked as it took multiple trips over 3 days.

Leave a comment below and I'll comment back (unless you have disqus. I don't have an account with them and they usually don't allow me to comment any other way..sorry). Follow me and I will follow you back.

These Hoes Ain't Loyal - Book Review: Your Husband, My Man by K.C. Blaze

Your Husband, My Man
by K.C. Blaze
Publisher: True Glory Publication
pages 196
rating: 3 stars (3.2)

Summary:
Lauren Michaels is a beautiful 27 year old club owner. Her definition of the perfect man is the one with long pockets and a wife. She only dates married men with limited time and lots to lose. Her latest sugar daddy, Arnold Blake happily funds her business ventures until she finds herself sucked into a truly forbidden love triangle with Tori, her best friend's husband.

Tori is the only man she dates for fun. He's gorgeous, well-hung and more romantic than anyone else she's been with. She convinces herself that she is saving Tori from the neglect he's receiving from her best friend.
Lauren's choices will lead her down an almost deadly path too difficult to recover from.

Purchase

My Review:
Lauren is one of those superficial chicks who thinks she's all that. Being on the industry that she is in that is some what understandable. She gets the things she wants from the men she sleeps with. I don't think she think of herself as a prostitute but that what she is. She exchange sex for money. However, I don't knock her for that. The reason why I couldn't like Lauren is because she sleeps with married men on purpose and do not have an ounce of guilt about it. Especially when sleeping with her best friend man.

Okay here comes the man bashing. Tori is the typical male. His wife makes him feel like shit but instead of demanding respect or leaving her ass, he cheats on her with her best friend. Cheating is bad enough but with her best friend is just straight foul.

Misha is wrong for how she is treating her husband. When you push someone away don't be surprised when they leave. Also what she did was bad enough but to not him was harsh. People can't be replace so regardless he would have been phases. There are things that you just shouldn't do to a person.

This book is filled with so much drama It perfect for people who enjoy realty shows. It ends in a cliffhanger. I am interested in what going to happen between Misha and Tori (which is the girl way to spell that name). Will Lauren come clean about her trifling ways or will she continue to play the innocent victim? Fast paced and definitely a lounge on the patio with a glass of warm enjoying the warm breeze type of read.

*Side note: What's up with homey's forehead? Looks like he got popped in the head or about to grow some devil horns. The person who did the cover needs to watch a Youtube video on contouring. I'm just saying.

Blog Tour: The Designed by Kate Tailor

@XpressoReads #giveaway #blogtour

The Designed by Kate Tailor
Publication date: January 26th 2015
Genres: New Adult, Science Fiction
rating: 4 stars (3.6)

Synopsis:
What if the next new drug was you? Raleigh’s body produces a drug that could define the future of medicine if the dangerous world surrounding it doesn’t kill her first.

Eighteen-year old Raleigh Groves can sense disease in others and is suffering from her own unexplained illness as well. After years and dozens of doctor visits, she has given up hope of ever finding a cure, let alone a diagnosis. Then she meets a man who explains that her talent and curse are linked. Her body produces a drug, Lucidin, which allows her to sense others. She’s rare, and the drug she makes is coveted.

Rho has spent the last few years on the run. The Lucidin that is racing through his system makes him a target. Surrounded by addicts and dealers on one side and scientists and doctors on the other, he has to rely on his wits and his team to stay one step ahead. So far he has stayed afloat, but some of his brothers haven’t been as lucky.

As Rho and Raleigh collide they must face the perilous world of Lucidin together. Nothing is black-and-white and Raleigh must decide where her alliances lie. Sometimes the hardest heart to sense is your own.

My Review:
I had put off reading this book for a little bit. Then I started reading it and then put it down again. I think I maybe have read about 5 or so books before I picked it up again. So what's up with that you ask? Well, the beginning with Rho was exciting but when it got to Raleigh I got a little bored. To be honest, it kinda stayed that way for me. It ended up being quite a good read.

So here's the deets peeps. Raleigh has been dealing with an unknown disease. It causes her to have blackouts at random moments. For as long as she can remember she has been seeing doctors trying to find out what is wrong with her. The one sign that is different about her no one (who knows) associates with her disease. She is able to sense illness in people.

Rho is unnaturally handsome and perfect. He is very aware of Lucidin and its underbelly. He's been on the run for years. Surprisingly it is Raleigh who saves him and in return he and his reluctant team takes her on even its just until she understand the dangers of what she has running through her veins. When Rho goes to meet up with the brothers that is when Raleigh eyes and mind really understand the depth of Lucidin.

Once Rho and Raleigh meet the story becomes fast paced.  Lucidin is an interesting drug. The world that Tailor has created is completely plausible including the denial by most scientists. I am interested to see where the story will go from here. Maybe the pharmaceutical companies will put out a hit on them. After all the ability given to certain individuals who can use Lucidin would hurt their bottom line. Intrigued? You should be. Slow start but like the saying goes "it's not always about how you start but how you finish."

Book Blitz: Wicked White by Michelle A. Valentine

wickedwhite-rd

Are you ready to meet Ace White? You can get your hands on WICKED WHITE by Michelle A. Valentine now!

wickedwhiteAbout WICKED WHITE

After his mother dies, rock star Ace White—lead singer of the red-hot band Wicked White—is done with the celebrity game. The phony people, the meaningless one-night stands: he doesn’t want any of it anymore. Quitting in the middle of a sold-out tour, Ace sets out to find some place—any place—where he can be alone.
Aspiring singer Iris Easton’s life has never been easy. First, her mother walked out on her when she was a kid. Now she’s buried in debt, weeks after losing her beloved grandmother. When a mysterious and sexy new guy moves in next door, Iris can’t help but be drawn to his soulful gaze. She can tell there’s something from his past haunting him—something he’s not telling her.
Just as Ace starts falling for Iris, the media go on a worldwide hunt to find the missing rocker. Will true love conquer all, or will the truth be the very thing that tears the couple apart?
EXCERPT Without warning, she throws her arms around my neck and crushes her lips against mine. I know kissing her back is wrong, but I’ll be damned if I don’t want her so badly at this point that I can’t stop myself from giving in. I’ve been so good with restraining myself when it comes to Iris, because protecting her from the chaos that I’ll bring her is what’s always been on the forefront of my mind. Her fingers thrust into my hair, and I reach down and curl my hands around her thighs before hoisting her into the air. Instinctively she wraps her legs around my waist, and I thread one of my hands into her tousled curls while the other is busy cupping that perfect ass of hers. “I’ve wanted you since you walked into my trailer,” she breathes against my lips. A thrill shoots through me at her admission of how long she’s wanted me. “You’ve been driving me out of my mind from the moment I first saw you.” “Then take me.” Her words leave her mouth in a breathy sigh as she gives me permission to ravage her body. I’ve wanted her so much for so long, it would easy for me to say screw it and give in and screw her right here in this shed, but I know that’s a dick move on my part. Iris Easton is not the kind of girl you can sleep with one time and never see again. She’s the kind of girl that makes you change everything you thought you ever wanted in life just to be with her. ace3

My Review:
This is not the first time I going to say this and it's not going to be the last, covers matter. This cover looks like the cover of an indie author. I know that writers think that it is the story that matters. And as readers we will say that it is the story that matters. However, you have to get a potential reader to pick up the book. The cover is that advert screaming "pick me up" or in the case of a bad one "pass me over". No matter how much we may dislike it, looks matter even with books. Enough with that now on to the review.

This is a fast paced book. The characters were okay. What wasn't typical is that there isn't much romance in this. So if you are looking for a romance break you'll find it with this book. If you are looking for a quick fantasy novel where the character do something other than looking for love then this may be a winner for you.

Blog Tour: Daisy and the Front Man by Rebekah L. Purdy

@/RebekahLPurdy @NereydaG1003 #giveaway #blogtour

Release Date: 06/16/15
Entangled Publishing: Crush

Summary from Goodreads:
Hell hath no fury like a fangirl scorned…

When Daisy Morris finds out she’s spending the summer with her dad, bodyguard for Seconds to Juliet—the hottest boy band around—she knows it couldn't be more perfect. But not because she’s a fan. Oh, no. Because ever since front man Trevin Jacobs completely humiliated her by standing her up for homecoming, Daisy is out for a little revenge. Yup, Trevin Jacobs is goin' down...

When one of his bandmates bets Trevin he can't make Daisy—the gorgeous but surprisingly ice-cold daughter of their bodyguard—fall in love with him, it’s a bet he can’t resist. Sure, Daisy won’t give him the time of day for reasons he can't understand, and her dad’s hell-bent against his little girl spending time with a superstar. But the terms are set, and Trevin is determined to make Daisy fall…hard.

But every front man should know never to trust a girl with a pretty face…

This Entangled Teen Crush book contains adult language, sexual situations, and seriously hot boys. It may cause swoony daydreams involving a certain super-cute front man.

My Review:
Super cute. I like how the author made it plausible that Daisy could get her revenge. The book is fast paced. The romance was a great progression. It wasn't instalove. I like the way the characters interacted with each other. I also like that the characters acted there age. Some times you get characters that are either too childish or too adult. I think it was still a stretch how she was able to get her revenge but since she didn't know what her dad did for a living it made it more plausible. I really enjoyed the book and is looking forward to the next one.

Rebekah Purdy grew up in Michigan, where she spent many late nights armed with a good book and a flashlight. When not hiding at her computer and getting lost in her stories, she enjoys reading, singing, soccer, swimming, football, camping, playing video games and hanging out with her kids. She loves the unexplainable like Bigfoot, the Dogman, and the Loch Ness Monster (lots of good story material)! She admits to still having all the books she bought throughout her childhood and teen years, and she may or may not have an obsession with anything chocolate…
