Summary:
Henry Malone’s childhood was shattered by the unexplained suicide of his father. Now a teenager, his days are spent studying to become a Neural Implant Technician for Planetary Link Corporation, helping them maintain an iron grip over his walled country and every iota of knowledge contained within—but he leads a double life. Henry’s nights are spent helping his mother wage a cyber war against them in her quest to find the truth behind his father’s death.

He’s managed to keep his two lives separate, a delicate balance that’s endangered after he repairs the neural implant of a stranger. He finds she’s in possession of illegal memories from the outside world, unauthorized knowledge of his father, and a message: speak to me later and tell no one. Henry has a choice to make—ignore the message and maintain his double-life, or answer and risk everything to uncover secrets Planetary Link would kill to keep buried.

My Review:

This is a different type of story. It was pretty good. We are taken to the future where people are implanted with NEX in their brain. NEX enables people to communicate with each other as well as watching each recordings of each other.

So you have to pay shares for just about everything including walking down the hallway of your school. A school highway toll...are you freaking kill me?! And shares can be earned in a variety of way but mostly it's from updating profile and sharing reality type content. So it's basically like now. Everyone trying to get a career jumping off from their Youtube video only easier because it in your head. No more pesky uploading from a device.

Also in this future world you are only able to learn what you are granted. If you go and read a book illegally it can be punishable by death. Talk about book banning huh. There are other things that I would call improvements in the book. Most notable from me was Compound B which in a bone-mending paste. Me being a Harry Potter fan immediately thought "oh that ain't not but some Skelagrow". Anyway...

I like the story but it left me wanting more. The characters were okay but they could have been better. I especially wanted to know more about Riya. I also think that the way the book just jumped into Henry being in someone head with out any real explanation created a moment of his she a robot, half human, what is going on?!!!! Hopefully, now that book 1 is done book 2 can fill in blanks. Be more character driven. Flesh out Gulf City, cities outside of the NEX, and even the character more. So liked it enough to read book 2 but it was slow going.
