This Week Question

If you can step into one characters shoes (in a book) and be them for a day who would it be and why? Also if you want to be creative what scene? via Seeing Night Book Reviews

If you read this blog at all then you know the answer to this, Harry Potter. His character because he experience going from not knowing magic exist to this magical world, from thinking he's not special to finding out that he's the survivor of the world (both muggle and magical).

If I had to pick a scene it would be playing Qudditch for the first time. LOL I have a fear of heights but I have always wanted to be able to fly. It may seem strange but think about it. I fear of heights usually is more about the fear of falling but if you can fly there's isn't a need to fear that.

Any way that's my answer. How did you answer?

Have you ever read a book you thought you’d hate but loved? Or vice versa? – Suggested by A Great Read

This is a short one for me as I can't think of a book that has been able to do that. There have been books that I wasn't sure I would like but not a book that I thought that I would hate and ending up loving. In the opposite, Twilight. I thought I would like it but I never got pass the first half of the first book. And yes, I tried again after I saw the movie, which was just okay, and still couldn't do it.

#FF #FollowMeFriday

I am so excited to be one of this week's featured blogger. Happy, happy, joy, joy! -Ren and Stimpy reference. Did you get it? No...come on I'm not that old :)

When did you start blogging?
I started blogging around 6 years (maybe 7) ago in November.

What is your favorite part of book blogging?
My favorite part of blogging is meeting new bloggers. If have read things I wouldn't have read on the recommendation of fellow bloggers.

What type of books do you mainly blog about?
I mainly blog about Y.A., N.A., romance, and street lit books. I can usually relate to the story and characters of these types of books.

What is your favorite book(s)?
LOL. The Harry Potter series. I was reluctant to read it at first. I was older and I was like many people who thought the books (book 1 and 2 were out) were for kids. After noticing how many adults were reading them I decided to give it a chance and been in love ever since!

What has been the best thing that has happened to you because of book blogging?
Having authors reach out to me has been the best thing that has happen. Some want reviews which I appreciate being thought of but others we actually chit chat. I think that is pretty awesome to be able to fall in love with a book and talk to the author about it.

This week’s Question - Suggested by Second Run Reviews
Have you ever had a reoccurring dream? What was it?

Yes I have. I am walking down a random street. Then all of a sudden I turn into my younger self maybe around 6 or 7. I end up in my hometown in a diner that I have never been in before. Like seriously I never been in a diner there so that's odd. Anyway, the door opens and there is this bright golden light. And as anticlimactic as it is the dream ends. Sooooo that's it. That's there dream. How did you answer this question.

This week’s Question:
Have you ever been to BEA? If not, what’s stopping you? If you have, what was your best experience there?

I have not been to BEA. The costs involve has stopped me from going. The amount for ticket plus the cost for a week long stay at a nearby hotel is not in my budget...not yet anyway.

This week’s Question:
Have you ever been inspired by a book character to do something? Who was the character and what was it? Suggested by Eternity Through Pages
It's nothing big like become president or something completely out of character for me but I would have to say yes to this question. If I read about a character that does something that I like to do but haven't done in awhile it will inspire me to get moving. For example: The Friday Night Knit Club obvious makes me want to knit up a sweater. How did you answer this question?

How important is good writing to you? In an ideal world, a book would be beautifully written AND have great character development, plot, etc. But in the real world, which do you prefer: (1) Great characters and plot with lousy writing or (2) Middling character development and plot but gorgeous writing

This is hard as I would like the perfect book like in the question. If I had to choose it would be great characters. If I can't connect with the character the book just doesn't work for me. How did you answer this question?

Knitting is one of my hobbies (picked because it the newest thing I'm learning). This was hard because I like doing a variety of things. In fact, I have so many that I find it hard to get as much done as I would like. How did you answer this weeks question?

This weeks Question:

Have any pets? Tell us or show us

I don't have any pets at this time. I did have two betta fish. One at my old job and the other at home. Once I am settled again, I'm getting a dog and probably a cat ummm a couple of betta fish. Oh and for those animal lovers out there. The betta fish are alive and well. I gave them to former coworkers.

How have your reading habits changed in the past few years? Did you get interested in a new genre? Do you read more? Less? Why do you think your habits changed, if they did.

I read more Y.A. I love the stories. Especially when its a good fairy tale retelling. I think my habits haven't changed so much as I am more open to reading books that are out of my comfort zone.

How did you answer this question? Leave a comment to you follow Friday. Thanks for the follow :)

What book are you embarrassed to admit you LOVED? (try to think beyond Twilight).

I don't have a book that I'm embarrassed to admit I love. I guess there are certain people who probably think I should be embarrassed that I love reading books by certain romance authors or that I love Urban/Street lit.

This week question:

Change the Plot. If you could, what book would you change the ending or a plot thread? Go ahead and do it…change it.

I can't think of any book where I would change the ending. So I will go to my fav standby, Harry Potter. There are people who didn't like the pairings at the end even though anyone could see that Harry and Ginny was always suppose to hook up same with Ron and Hermione. Thing one thing that left me hanging that I would have liked to have knows is what did Harry end up doing for a living. Did he do what he had to become and Auror? We know that he didn't end up working at Hogwarts because per a conversation with his son.

Freestyle Friday 8 - Vampires

I don't even know why I am doing a post on Vampires. The fasnication with vampires have been going on for centuries. People are drawn to them for varies reasons mostly because they leave forever, that is if they are not staked in the heart (the most common way to kill a vampire). They have been depicted in several ways from the gruesomely scary to the glamorous and beautiful. Vampire who feed and kill their victims to those who can feed and keep them alive, to variations of different type like Christine Feehan's Carpathians.

What are your favorite vampire novels other than Twilight? And if you have given Christine Feehan a try start with Dark Possession which is by far my fav Carpathian novel by her. As I write this I just realize that I haven't written a review for this book.

Freestyle Friday 7 - Zombies

#FF #freestylefriday

Who haven't watch a zombie movie? The walking dead with rotting flesh and limbs falling off. Slow moving zombies who you can easily run away from. Moaning zombies with arms outstretched. Zombies with dragging bad legs. Zombies who run. Zombies in mass numbers. The new thing now-a-days are biological warfare zombies. What do all theses zombies have in common? We just can't get of enough of them.

There is something so terrifyingly compelling about them. Especially the biological/viral ones. Perhaps because anyone can become one. Maybe its the fact that when the outbreak happens lawlessness occurs and people are free to unleash their inner hero (or for some freely kill). Whatever it is, I prefer to watch them than read about them. I haven't written reading about them off yet as I haven't read enough to make up my mind. Do you have any suggestions of some great zombie reads?

Q: Give us a sneak! What are you reading? Tell us about a fun or fail scene in your current read.

This is the second week I can't answer this question. I am currently reading a murder thriller and it's going along well. I guess this could be considered a kind of fail. In one scene it states that they (the characters) had a discusion at lunch but are on the boat but then it goes back to the scene at lunch. The why it was written causes momentary confusion.

Freestyle Friday 6 - Dystopian

#FF #freestylefriday

It seems that Dystopian novels are the most popular genre in Young Adult fiction. I must admit that I love them. It's a chance to explore a world that is similar to our own but one decision shaped it into something completely different. Some authors seem to rant or preach but all seem to have a message. If you do this then this "reality" may happen. So far I haven't gotten tired of dystopian novels and have many on my tbr list. They raise questions, can change your views, change your habits, or at the very least be a very entertaining read.

So what are your favs?

Freestyle Friday 5 - Historical Fiction

#freestylefriday #FF

Why you won't really see Historical Fiction on this blog?

As a kid I hated history. Maybe hate is too strong; I disliked (strongly disliked) history. I found it boring and certain gender role expectations infuriating  Also the formal way people spoke to each other bothers me. Historical romance is perhaps the reason why I shy away from this genre. Throbbing loins and such just doesn't work for me.

Unless a book is recommend to me or grabs me in some way there will be very little historical fiction reviews. I know many of you are HF fans. I like reading the blogs of those you read these types of books I just don't get the same type of enjoyment out of them. Then again I never use to like romance novels of any kind so maybe HF will grow on me.

Freestyle Friday 3 - Paging All Bookworms' Feb 2013 Mini Challenge

February 2013 Mini-Challenge: Seeing Red (from a Shelfari group)
I hate Valentine's Day challenges. So every February I sidestep the obvious and go with something different. However it occurs to me that not everyone may feel the same way I do, so this year I am going with something that may still allow you to intercept Cupid's arrow, if you are so inclined. For February's challenge read a book that has the color red (or some variant of that color) in the title or author's name. If that coincides with something that is oriented in the Valentine's Day direction then that is great-I guess. Ain't love grand?

What am I going to read?
The only thing I have planned to read that is red is the Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce.

Freestyle Friday 2 - Play Book Tag's 5th Anniversary Relay

#ff #freestylefriday  picture is from Dolphin Talk photo taken by Bill Tigrett
PBT's 5th Anniversary Relay

Official Rules may change a bit but this is the jest of the game:

It's our Fifth anniversary in February - - so this game is all about the number 5.

This activity is essentially a relay race. The administrators will form teams of 5 people, making the teams as even as possible based on your prior year's reading.

Each team will be assigned a starting tag, selected at random. The first person on the team reads any book that has that tag. They must finish the book and write a review before the next person may start reading. When the first person has completed their book, the next person counts off five tags in the list of top 200 and reads a book that fits the new tag.

For example, the first tag could be "high school". So the first person would read a book tagged "high school" and writes their review. Then the next person would read the tag "holocaust".

The races will be run in "heats". So let's say we have 6 teams at the start. The first four teams to finish the relay (all five people have read their books and written reviews) will move on to the next heat. The final heat will feature only two teams. Heats will begin on Fridays at 8 pm EST - - that way everyone knows when they may start, and hopefully there will be some planning time between heats. A new starting tag will be provided for each heat for those teams that remain.

The minimum page count requirement is 250 pages. However, if you read a book that ALSO fits the monthly tag, then the book may be shorter by as much as 75 pages.

Graphic novels are permissible, but you must read 2 graphic novels instead of one book.

Each team may have 1 skip per heat. This would allow you to skip over one person on the team, for whatever reason, but then that person will need to read the final book for their team. Otherwise you must submit an order to us and stick with it before the start of each heat.

The administrators will do their best to post daily standings.

Reviews must consist of three paragraphs minimum and include a plot summary and your opinion of the book.

If you are interested, please sign up below and include how many books you completed last year along with your expression of interest.

There will definitely be prizes! All members of the winning team will receive a prize. Heat winners will be awarded participation points of varying levels depending upon the heat.
